Farms

Dancing Roots Farm
Dancing Roots is on 10 beautiful acres above the Sandy River, adjacent to Dabney State Park. In addition to their fields, Dancing Roots has a few acres of woods, tons of blackberries, and lots of refuge for songbirds and wildlife.

Husband and wife team, Shari Sirkin and Bryan Dickerson bought the farm in the fall of 2002 and immediately began tending to the fields that sat fallow for over 30 years. Their plans call for creating an ecologically sound and productive working farm including orchards, year-round produce, educational programs, a composting facility, and farm animals such as pigs, chickens, goats, ducks and bees!

Dancing Roots uses only ecologically sound practices, such as crop rotations, natural amendments, cover crops, drip irrigation and they never use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.  The farm offers high quality, fresh produce for a number of local restaurants as well as individuals and households through their CSA program.

Ford Farms
Ford Farms Highland Cattle & Cyderworks is a family owned and operated venture. Rich and Kristin Ford own and operate a total of 150 acres on Sauvie Island, Oregon, where they raise the fruit, press and bottle Cyderworks Sparkling Cider.

Kristen & Rich Ford own 150 acres on Sauvie Island where they raise Highland Cattle and grow apples for Cyderworks, French-style sparkling cider. The Fords selected the Highland breed for a variety of reasons, including their natural resistance to disease and ability to forage; their inherent gentleness and ease of birthing; and the production of meat that is lean and low in cholesterol, yet rich in marbling and flavor.

The cattle are raised free range on natural pasture and alfalfa hay, and receive only natural mineral supplements. Steroids, growth hormones, digestive stimulators and chemicals are never involved in the production produce of their meat, and by using only registered purebred breeding stock, they’ve been able to bring choice steers to their USDA approved processor.

Sun Gold
Sun Gold Farm is a small, sustainable family farm located in the beautiful, fertile Tualatin Valley in the small Dutch community of Verboort, where four generations have farmed and cared for the land. The farm lies along West Dairy Creek, probably named because of the many dairies that used to be in the county. There are two natural wetlands on the farm, and plenty of wildlife. But mostly, Sun Gold has vegetables, fruits and plants. Sun Gold Farm is owned and operated by Charlie, Vicki and Chris Hertel, as well as the new addition of Greg, Stephanie and little Joey Lyn Ainsworth and Rachel Ainsworth. The farm’s primary source of income is through the production of fresh market crops that they sell directly to the consumer at various farmers markets and through their "Harvest Box" program, also known as a CSA. The family is careful to grow their produce without pesticides. Crops are rotated for soil health and since the farm was historically a dairy, there is plenty of organic matter in the soil. Weeds are controlled by mulching, rototilling, hoeing, and getting down on their knees and pulling!

Sun Gold is in Forest Grove, Oregon.
